Platform Integrations and Upstream Engineering
Goal: Strengthen the VoxBento project through concrete improvements across the FOSSASIA event ecosystem.
Problem
The project did not exist in isolation. A usable event interpretation workflow relies on the surrounding event platform, contribution tools, and maintainable upstream integration points.
Investigation
I followed the interfaces where event data, images, plans, and community tooling meet the broader FOSSASIA stack. In VoxBento, the critical boundary is between MediaMTX transport and FastAPI coordination. In Eventyay, upload processing and structured schedule data must remain reliable. In Eventyay Business, tier state and usage need an auditable model before billing workflows can safely follow.
Implementation
In Eventyay core, the image optimization work preserves visual orientation with EXIF transpose, removes unnecessary metadata, preserves aspect ratio during resize, and uses LANCZOS resampling. Related platform work covers schedule and speaker import paths and export reliability.
In Eventyay Business, the active implementation establishes versioned tiers, prices, entitlements, Free-tier assignment, usage records, and organizer plan visibility. Payment webhooks and subscription transition flows remain explicitly in progress.
In Star-Me, I repaired the browser automation flow that discovers FOSSASIA repositories and guides a signed-in user through starring them. The repair addresses hanging behavior and GitHub UI selector changes, while retaining popup, retry, timeout, cross-origin, and rate-limit handling.
Result and Evidence
- Eventyay: smart LANCZOS-based image optimizations
- Star-Me: fix script hanging and update form selectors
- Eventyay Business upstream
- VoxBento upstream
Learning
Integration work is where product promises become operational. Keeping responsibilities explicit, validating at boundaries, and documenting in-progress areas are as important as delivering a feature in one repository.
